I am almost embarrassed to still be writing about our trip to Costa Rica.  Since then I have been to Atlanta and I am now in Norfolk.  It has been that crazy, and I still have a trip to Austin Texas all before Nolin turns 2 in less than two weeks.

To pick up from where I left off…we realized that a pack n play is the world’s greatest gift for traveling parents.  Everyone got a great night sleep.  We didn’t have a lot of plans for our second day in Arenal, but Jenn and I were excited to go to the Hanging Bridges. Continue reading »

The trip from Grande Playa to the Arenal Volcanos seemed much shorter (4 hours instead of 5) which was further helped because it was actually daylight this time. Once again Nolin sat patiently in the back seat singing songs and commenting on just about anything as we drove along.

You couldn’t help but be awe-struck at the Arenal Volcano (which could be seen at any point) as we drove up to the Hotel el Silencio del Campo in La Fortuna.  This was a larger resort of 20 individual cabins, a spa, pool and hotsprings…it was pretty awesome.  Even cooler, this time we had a pack n play.  Nolin immediately jumped in and started playing with his trains (I think he was excited to finally have his own space…and so were we). What do you do with a 22 month old who has either been in a plane or a car seat for 17 hours?  Open the door and unleash him on an unsuspecting friendly German couple operating the first hotel of our Costa Rican adventure of course!

Nolin was a trooper on the trip and I can’t recall even the slightest meltdown during the full day’s travel to our first stop.  He slept most of the way, so by the time we arrived at 7pm (9pm our time) he was full of energy and excited to explore the tropical grounds of the hotel we were staying at.  He just kept saying “Wow” as he took everything in around him, and wow was right although we wouldn’t fully appreciate the beauty of our surroundings until daylight the next morning.
