For as long as I can remember, there has been a pretty standard preference order for Nolin. First was Jenn, next came Teresa and I battling it out for second.
Then Pap-Pap comes into town and the three of us are so far off the radar that there is really no difference between second, third or fourth place.
Now that Nolin is fully potty trained he is very interested in toilets and flushing them, so Pap-Pap decided to show him how the toilet actually works. Now instead of simply pushing the handle, Nolin tries to take off the back and pull the chain.
We will stop him before he breaks the toilet and correct him. Each time we are met with well Pap-Pap showed me how to flush the toilet. He simply ignores the explanation that maybe sometimes Pap-Pap is wrong.
Last week, Pap-Pap left to head back up North for a little bit. I never know exactly how Nolin will take this, but so far he has always been pretty good about it. We always joke that with Nolin, if you are out of sight, you are out of mind.
This past trip they all got in the car and when they arrived at the airport, Nolin got excited because the most plausible explanation for coming to the airport was that he and Pap-Pap were flying to Orlando.
Needless to say he was a bit upset when he realized that not only was the plane not making the flight from Orlando to Orlando, it would also not involve he and Pap-Pap on an adventure together.
But like every other time, he got over it pretty quick.
The difference is this time the pecking order did not return to normal. I am happy to say that while the replacements have been called back into the game, I have established a pretty good hold on the #1 spot.
At least for the time being.
I am not taking my new found status for granted though. I know that in order to maintain some type of respectable standing when Pap-Pap returns, there will need to be a ton of forts built, plenty of hands on construction projects with tools, and lots of singing songs at the top of our lungs over and over and over and over again.
Nolin seems to have moved beyond Taylor Swifts Trouble (don’t know how that came about, but ironically seemed to be great entrance music for 2.5 year old) and Of Monsters And Men’s Six Weeks & Little Talks (much better) and now he is into Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zero’s Home.
I also know that if I have any intentions of Grace singing home is wherever I’m with you to me, I need to keep working…Teresa and I are currently still in a close second to Jenn, but don’t think Grace doesn’t have her eye on Pap-Pap.
