All around the country over the past few weeks parents have been rejoicing…it’s back to school time!
Last week I think I may have seen the last of the first day of school pics on Facebook. Nolin & Grace actually started a few weeks ago.
This is a big year for us. Nolin started Kindergarten, Grace started pre-school (as the oldest kid in her class because she missed the cutoff by 23 days), and Jenn…well she started vacation.
I guess it is not a true vacation because Nolin only goes to school Tuesday through Friday and Grace goes on Wednesdays and Fridays. Two days a week though, she has 4 hours of uninterrupted “me” time.
My view of her new-found freedom…a 4 hour spa treatment relaxing sipping on champagne. Her reality…a crazy mad dash to do all the things that can’t be easily done normally…like bring some semblance of order to our often chaotic “lived” in-house.
This has also brought on the era of kids activities. The time that Jenn has off is now replaced with soccer for Nolin on Mondays & Fridays, Karate on Tuesdays & Thursdays and dance class for Grace on Wednesday. We also start Sunday school this week as we enter the full-time chauffeur phase of our lives.
School so far has been great. Grace has Nolin’s old teacher who was excited to have a grown up Grace in her class vs. the one-month old whom I may (or may not) have accidentally left in a baby carrier in the classroom for a few minutes when I was dropping Nolin off.
She has been coming home with new artwork, that she loves to show me as soon as I walk in the door…Isn’t it beautiful Daddy? I have to agree. I think she is also excited to be able to finally claim her display rack beside Nolin’s.
Nolin has found a great match with his teacher. She told us one of her favorite things is during silent reading time, she will read to half the class, and Nolin reads to the other half. They both seem to like each other a lot, but apparently one day she was being stern with him and he looked at her and said
I thought all teachers were supposed to be nice?!
she replied with I tam a very nice teacher when my students listen the first time.
Nolin started listening. Game, set, point match….teacher.
We are only a couple of weeks in, but I think it’s fair to say that this will be a fun school year for all of us.
