Thankful

November is almost over, which means that the crazy Christmas season is quickly approaching. However, November is also National Adoption Month. So besides simply being thankful for friends, family and life, I am also incredibly thankful for the birth parents and process that allowed our family to be.

Raising kids is both more challenging and more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. But as our children are getting older, and becoming more self aware, there are new questions and challenges that we face.

And I am sure that it will become a much more delicate balancing act as the children get older.

I don’t think it matters how you became a parent, you are always going to question whether or not you are doing the right things, or if you are going to totally screw up your kids later in life.

Recently there were two creative assignments both kids did, that made me think…maybe, just maybe we were not doing too bad.

Nolin was asked to draw a self portrait and describe himself. He titled his picture #Natureboy!:

I like exploring nature & discovering new things like animals, plants, places. I also like 5 Night’s at Freddy’s. I (heart) animals (any type) & like to catch lizards, snakes, toads, frogs & fish. It make me happy when I spend time with family, & friends. I get really foucused when it comes to building I’ve built almost every character in 5 Nights at Freddy’s out of legos! (& they move) I like my life & always will.

It’s the very last line that I am most proud of. However, I wouldn’t be too mad if he moved on to something other than Five Night’s at Freddy’s.

For Grace, she was asked what her greatest gift from God was and to draw a picture. In Grace’s picture she said:

My Gift from God is Nolin

Not only did she draw a beautiful picture of she and Nolin, she also drew me with great hair, so I can’t complain about that.

I only hope they stay this way for ever. And I am thankful for the incredible birth parents that helped us start our family, for the two kids that make my life interesting, Jenn for keeping it all together, and our friends and family who always support us.

Just like Nolin…I like my life and always will…
